Ikano Retail

Ikano Retail is one of 12 IKEA franchisees. Through our omnichannel experience, we create a better everyday life in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico and the Philippines, offering well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible are able to afford them. Our Ikano Centres, anchored by IKEA, are retail destinations at the heart of our communities. We also invest in real estate to develop places for people to live, work and play. We are the only franchisee owned by the family of Ingvar Kamprad, who founded IKEA in 1943.

The year in brief

  • Turnover for Ikano Retail surpassed EUR 1 billion for the first time.
  • Women exceeded men in our management teams while locals led the way in our store and centre steering teams at 69%.
  • We used clean energy to power our business units generated by the 32,126 solar panels on our stores and centres. (Enough to power almost 2,000 average households, or two IKEA stores a year for free!) That same year, we were busy installing another 18,140 panels that would double our output for 2023 – enough energy from the sun to power almost 4,000 average households.
  • We digitised our Recycle Buy Back Centre at IPC, linking customers’ recycling efforts to our loyalty programme – increasing volume of waste recycled by 75% in five months and growing membership by 364%.
  • Across our 13 IKEA stores, storage organisation followed by bedroom furniture were the top-two highest earning home furnishing categories, with 158,463 pieces of BURHULT shelves sold.
  • As pandemic restrictions eased, IKEA Food saw 55.7 million plant, meat, chicken and vegetable balls sold. A 47.5% increase compared with the 2021 sales.
  • On 11 August, we opened IKEA Puebla. At 11,500 m2, it’s our 13th store and Mexico’s second.
  • Megabangna, our retail destination in East Bangkok, attracted more than 32,000 people at its New Year’s Eve party, putting us in the top three destinations in Bangkok for celebrating year-end countdowns.
