The kitchen team at IKEA Cheras in Malaysia have made targeted efforts to significantly reduce their food waste. From weighing all food waste that goes into the bins to reporting and logging the reasons for wasting the food, has given the co-workers very clear indications about the changes needed to improve the waste management in their kitchen.
They ensured that food storage is done correctly and expiry dates are tracked and by updating production plans on an hourly basis, they secured enough meals for hungry customers without creating additional waste.
Lastly, by ordering only the needed produce and always making sure it was fresh, they have also decreased the creation of waste. And that’s their advice to customers too; order only what you need as we hate to see a good meatball go to waste!
