Retail

Ikano Retail is one of 12 IKEA franchisees. Through our omnichannel experience, we create a better everyday life in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico and the Philippines, offering well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible are able to afford them. Our Ikano Centres, anchored by IKEA, are retail destinations at the heart of our communities. We also invest in real estate to develop places for people to live, work and play. We are the only franchisee owned by the family of Ingvar Kamprad, who founded IKEA in 1943.

The year in brief

  • Caring for People: Co-workers across IKEA stores and Ikano Centres contributed 909 “Social Days” to take up good cause or work together with one of our many community partners.
  • Caring for Planet: More than 2,000 co-workers took up online courses and hands-on learning sessions on sustainability as we went all in to building deeper knowledge around sustainable living and business operations.
  • A meaningful workplace: Ikano Retail demonstrated gender pay equity across our markets, with small-to-zero gender pay variances at the country levels, according to an external audit.
  • Connecting with communities: IKEA Mexico gave three social enterprises a chance to scale up by launching their products – from locally produce honey to fish – in our Mexico stores. The project also created meaningful work for 21 seamstresses at up to three times the salaries they had earned previously in fast fashion factories.
  • A great day out: We hosted and created more than 3,000 events across our Shopping Centres in Malaysia and Thailand.
  • A Singapore icon: IKEA Singapore celebrated 45 years of inspiring nearly generations of Singaporeans with affordable, well-designed home solutions, signing up 15,000 new IKEA Family members during the month-long festivities.
  • Good for the planet: With 18,000 solar panels on its rooftop, our largest shopping centre, Megabangna, in the east of Bangkok, is reducing its electricity consumption by 37 percent with this 9.9-megawatt plant – saving us almost EUR 800,000 a year.
  • Our omnichannel offering: We implemented eight new digital solutions across our IKEA stores to support customers with online bookings and online reviews, including activating more than 400 Remote Planning services in the Philippines for Storage solutions to reach many more Filipinos living remotely across the archipelago.
  • Expansion: We opened the first IKEA store in the heart of metropolitan Bangkok, with IKEA Sukhumvit becoming Ikano Retail’s 14th store.
  • Colour in Penang: 1,200 runners and families turned up for art and fitness for the second annual Klippa Art Run, partnering with Decathlon Malaysia as the official apparel partner ahead of their first store opening in mainland Penang.
  • Going green: 10 percent of the nearly 1 million home deliveries were done in Electric Vehicles as we develop and increase our fleet.
  • Tough times: IKEA retail sales volume saw a decrease of 11% compared to 2022 as inflation and the cost-of-living impacted consumer sentiment.
  • Our People: We facilitated more than 30,000 hours of classroom, online and on-the-job training, building leadership and home furnishing competencies so our co-workers stay relevant to meet our many customers.
  • Our Range: We sold more than 207,500 BILLY bookshelves as we celebrated 45 years of BILLY with storage in focus.
