Toppen is Open for Business

Opening scenes from Toppen Shopping Centre

The new centre Toppen in Johor Bahru, Malaysia opened 13 November and is 100% owned by Ikano Group. Adding 1.2 million square feet of leasable space to our portfolio, Toppen brings our meeting places to more of the many like never before.

Anchored by IKEA Tebrau, the open-concept mall has space for some 300 other tenants. The centre is expected to attract more than 10 million visits by the end of 2020 – driving many to our IKEA store at the same time.

Hundreds of guests and co-workers gathered before the opening to take part in an energetic opening ceremony, with speeches by Christian Roejkjaer, MD of IKEA Southeast Asia, the Swedish Ambassador of Malaysia and the Major of Johor Bahru.

“Our team plans to host some 300 events a year,” said Christian, “This is a prime example of how we are moving beyond developing a place where people come to just shop. Today, we are developing meeting places!”

The Toppen opening kicked off a 12-day community festival including a dance-off to our very own Toppen tune, original music created by two Malaysian celebrities: Toppen Youtube page
