Ikano Group support Better Shelter following earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria

After the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6th, many people are suffering immensely. The tough weather conditions are making life exceedingly difficult for survivors. Ikano Group is partnering up with CARE, UNHCR and IOM to support Better Shelter help those affected by this tragedy.

Investigating several options and after careful consideration, Ikano Group decided to focus our efforts on donating around 20,000 mattresses from Ikano Industry to Better Shelter, a humanitarian non-profit organisation based in Sweden. Better Shelter is providing 10,000 emergency shelters to those impacted by the earthquakes, and the IKEA Foundation has already funded 5,000 of them.

Equipping 5,000 shelters with mattresses

Partnering up with CARE, UNHCR, and IOM (The International Organization for Migration), we aim to support Better Shelter through these partners with approximately 20,000 mattresses and split these between Türkiye and Northwest Syria. Our Ikano Industry co-workers are doing a fantastic job and working hard to make this happen.

Early morning of 24 March, the first truck was loaded with mattresses at Ikano Industry in Rogozno, Poland and is on its way to Northwest Syria and the Better Shelters via CARE. A second truck leaves Monday 27 March or Tuesday 28 March, and together, the two trucks will deliver around 1.500 mattresses in total.

These efforts are on-going, and we are hopeful that our contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of those impacted by the earthquakes.
