Adding on to Ikano Group’s existing seven IKEA stores in Southeast Asia, this IKEA store will be the first in Latin America. E-commerce for Mexico City customers is also foreseen to start up at the same time as the opening of the physical store.

“We are very excited to open in such a dynamic market as Mexico,” commented Malcolm Pruys, IKEA Mexico Retail Country Manager. “This is the great time for us to announce our arrival, as well as our plans in the country. Our ambition is to be able to bring the concept of democratic design to most Mexicans,” he emphasizes.

The first IKEA store will create around 300 and 370 direct jobs in both the store and the customer contact centre. And around 1,000 indirect jobs. It will be a 23,500 m² three level commercial space with more than 7,500 home products. 665 customers will be able to enjoy the iconic Swedish meatballs in the restaurant, and a Swedish food market is available with 150 different food products. The store will also have a rain water recovery system, and LED lights with the objective to get the LEED Gold Certification.
